Research Interests

Institutions are the key focus of my work, taking two directions:

From a short-run perspective, I investigate dysfunctional institutions. Specifically, I undertake empirical inquiries into the socio-economic determinants and consequences of corruption.

Concerning long-run development, I analyze the emergence and persistence of institutions across centuries. Currently I am investigating the formation and evolution of states.

Areas of Interest

Development economics: corruption, quality of government, education

Historical economics: long-run development, institutional economics
